Clearing and diagnostics center

Enabling targeted help - creating clarity

The Clearing and Diagnostics Office of the Bochum Youth Welfare Office is the central point of contact for children, adolescents and young adults between the ages of 6 and 21 when it comes to assessing their entitlement to integration assistance. The aim is to identify individual support needs at an early stage and to initiate suitable assistance.

Who can get in touch?

  • Legal guardians of children and young people (under 18 years of age)

  • Young adults aged 18 and over themselves

What is checked?

The office clarifies whether there is a so-called participation impairment - i.e. a mental, intellectual or physical impairment that makes it difficult to participate in society. This is based on Sections 35a SGB VIII and 99 SGB IX.

What help is available?

  • Autism therapy

  • Special educational support

  • Learning therapy for dyslexia or dyscalculia

  • School support (integration assistance)

What is needed?

The following documents are required for the application:

  • A specialist or psychotherapeutic statement

  • For learning therapy: medical proof of hearing and visual ability

  • Written release from the duty of confidentiality for specialist agencies involved

The cooperation of the applicant is required by law (§ 60 SGB I). This is the only way the office can make an accurate assessment.

How does the procedure work?

  • Appointments via the secretary's office (by prior arrangement only)

  • Submission of documents

  • Diagnostic assessment by an interdisciplinary team

  • Recommendation of suitable aids

Who works there?

A multi-professional team consisting of:

  • Child and adolescent psychotherapists

  • Curative and rehabilitation educators

  • Administrative staff

Good to know:

  • The services are free of charge if the requirements are met.

  • The building is barrier-free accessible (3rd floor, elevator available).

  • Data protection is strictly observed.
