School social work is an integral part of many schools in Bochum. It supports children and young people in everyday school life, strengthens social skills and helps with personal or family challenges - confidentially, reliably and close to the lives of the pupils.

What the Goal is?

School social work promotes educational equality and equal opportunities. It supports young people in mastering their educational and social challenges - regardless of their background, social status or life situation.

Parental work as part of the support

School social work also provides parents with advice - on parenting issues, school problems or the search for suitable support services. Discussions take place on an equal footing and are voluntary and confidential.

Example from practice

A pupil is increasingly withdrawn and lacks concentration. The school social worker talks to the child, the parents and the class teacher. Together, a support plan is developed that includes school and extracurricular help.
