The Bochum Music School is one of the largest music schools in Germany and a central hub for cultural education in the city. Since 1967, it has offered people of all ages the opportunity to discover, learn, and create music together.
Diversity for All Generations
From babies in parent-child classes to elementary school children in the JeKits program to adults in the orchestra—around 9,000 students take advantage of the wide range of offerings each week. Classes are held at over 100 locations throughout Bochum—close to home and inclusive.
Personalized and professional
More than 140 qualified teachers provide individualized support to nurture talent—from the very first note to stage readiness. The program ranges from classical instrumental lessons and digital music production to band projects and choirs.
Open to everyone
The music school is committed to inclusion: People with disabilities are, of course, welcome. Social and sibling discounts make it easier to enroll.

JeKits – Music in Grundschulen
As part of the state program JeKits (“Instruments, Dancing, and Singing for Every Child”), the Bochum Music School brings music directly into Grundschulen. In the first year, the focus is on making music together as a class. Starting in the second year, students have the opportunity to learn an instrument of their choice—in a hands-on, playful, and enjoyable way. This approach makes music education accessible to everyone from an early age.
