The Bochum Adult Education Center (vhs) is the city's municipal further education center. It stands for lifelong learning - open, affordable and close to home. Its offer is aimed at anyone who wants to develop personally, professionally or socially.

Offers of the vhs Bochum

The vhs program is published every six months and comprises over 800 courses and events. It covers a wide range of topics:

  • Languages: English, German as a second language, French, Spanish, Arabic and many more.

  • Profession & digitalization: IT courses, job application training, project management, social media

  • Society & Politics: Lectures, discussions, intercultural education

  • Health & exercise: Yoga, back training, nutrition, stress management

  • Art & Creativity: Painting, photography, sewing, music, literature

  • Basic education & school-leaving qualifications: Reading, writing, arithmetic, catching up on school-leaving qualifications

  • Nature & Environment: Sustainability, climate change, excursions

Many offers are also available online and are therefore particularly suitable for working people or people with limited mobility.

The vhs Bochum offers young people and adults the opportunity to catch up on their secondary school leaving certificate (Hauptschulabschluss or Fachoberschulreife) - while working and in small learning groups. The courses usually take place in the evening and are supervised by experienced teachers.

There are no strict admission requirements. Many courses can be booked at a reduced rate - for example for students or holders of the Bochum Pass. Educational vacations are also possible.
