Schooling
School closures in NRW
"School transfer" refers to the transfer of a pupil from a higher type of school (e.g. Gymnasium) to another, usually lower type of school (e.g. Realschule or Hauptschule). The aim is to achieve a better fit between performance level and school requirements.
Reasons for leaving school
Performance problems over a longer period of time
Overload with the learning material
Missing transfer despite repetition or re-examination
Recommendation by teachers and school conference
Example:
A student attends the 8th grade of a Gymnasium, repeatedly gets poor grades and is not promoted. The school recommends a change to a Realschule.
Course of the training
The decision is made by the class conference. Parents are informed at an early stage and involved in the process. The new school must agree to the admission. A consultation with the school management is customary.
Example:
After a discussion with the school management and a consultation appointment at the Realschule, the change will be made for the new school year.
Legal framework
Expulsion is not a punishment, but an educational measure. It is intended to help the pupil to cope better in a different learning environment. It is generally possible to return at a later date - for example, if performance improves significantly.
Example:
After two successful years at Realschule, a student can transfer to a Berufskolleg and complete the Fachabitur there.
