Family elementary school centers

Since August 2021, there have been four family primary school centers at municipal schools in Bochum, which are co-funded by the funding guideline of the Ministry of Schools and Education of North Rhine-Westphalia. In February and August 2025, two further locations each began their work as FGZs. These locations are financed by municipal funds.

The aim of the Family Primary School Centers is to build a positive relationship with parents and to strengthen them in their role as living and learning companions for their children. The focus is clearly on families. To make this possible, the participating schools are provided with additional staff and material resources.

As family primary school centers, these schools offer tailor-made counseling and educational services where children and parents come and go every day: in the Grundschule. Here, access is more familiar and an exchange is often easier. Cooperation between the schools and other educational partners and networking in the district form an important basis.

Parents and guardians receive tailored support and assistance with questions about education, care and upbringing, as well as a general exchange of ideas. The services are open to all and voluntary.
