Benefits for education and participation

Creating Opportunities—Regardless of Income

Children and teens should be able to participate: at school, in clubs, on field trips, or during lunch at daycare. The Education and Participation Package supports low-income families in this—in a straightforward and targeted way.

Who is eligible for these benefits?

Children and adolescents up to age 25 are eligible if they or their parents receive one of the following benefits:

  • Housing Allowance

  • Child Supplement

  • Social Assistance (SGB XII)

  • Benefits Under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act

The Bochum Job Center is responsible for recipients of the citizen's income.

What is eligible for funding?

The package includes:

  • Field Trips and School Trips: The costs of daycare and school field trips are fully covered.

  • School Supplies: Subsidies for backpacks, calculators, and other school supplies—at the start of each school year.

  • School Transportation: The copayment for the DeutschlandTicket Schule is covered.

  • Academic Support: Tutoring is paid for when it is necessary.

  • Lunch: The cost of group lunches at school or daycare is covered.

  • Social and Cultural Participation: 15 euros per month for club dues, music lessons, or summer camps.

What should be done?

An application is required for each benefit—often accompanied by supporting documents such as a benefit decision or a school certificate. The forms are available online at:
