Homework
Homework supplements lessons. It serves to consolidate, repeat and prepare learning content - and promotes independent work.
Goals of homework
Consolidation of what has been learned
Preparation for new topics
Promoting personal responsibility and time management
Example:
After a lesson on fractions, exercises are provided for students to do at home.
Regulations
Homework must be appropriate to the age and performance level of the pupils. As a rule, it should be possible to complete it independently - without help from parents or tutoring. The processing time is limited:
Grundschuleapprox. 30 minutes
Secondary level I: approx. 60 minutes
Secondary level II: individual, but reasonable
Example:
A fifth grade student should not need more than one hour a day for all homework together.
Homework throughout the day
In open all-day schools (OGS), homework is often done in supervised learning times. The responsibility still lies with the parents.
Example:
In the OGS of a Grundschule there is a daily supervised homework time from 14:00 to 15:00.
Rating
Homework may not be graded, but may be recognized - e.g. through feedback or inclusion in the oral grade.
Example:
Regular, careful processing can have a positive effect on cooperation.
Missing homework
If homework is repeatedly missed without good reason, the school can take pedagogical measures - e.g. rework at school or a discussion with the parents.
